Kate Moss and Frank Sinatra sporting Trilby hatsWe've all had them, bad hair days... and when you just can't face the straighteners and the hairspray, it's tough to know the best way in which to deal with your tangled mess.

Imagine what it's like for the celebrities. When they're struggling with their locks (or lack of locks), you can bet your bottom dollar there will be a photographer lurking around every corner.

But the celebs have found their answer... the hat. Keeping the traditional Sinatra look alive these days are the likes of Kate Moss, no less, not to mention Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp.

And now the Trilby is once again finding itself in the spotlight. Sales of the elegant headgear have leapt by 105% in the last two years with top sellers including purple, orange and black-and-white dogtooth check.

Rob Faucherand, head of men's accessories buying at Debehnams, believes the current upturn in the Trilby's fortunes can be attributed to an unlikely source.

He told the Telegraph: "Every time Van Morrison goes on stage, the loudest cheers will undoubtedly come from hat manufacturers across the world."

Faucherand adds: "The Trilby has got much more class than the baseball hats worn by younger singers, providing older musicians with a sense of gravitas as well as playing the important role of covering any evidence of thinning hair."

Well quite. But whether it's a bad hair day or a receding hairline that is sparking the trend, the Trilby is on the up and up.
