If it's a healthy snack that you're craving, you could do worse than head out for a night at the movies.New research suggests that popcorn is not only perfect for big screen munching, but could help prevent cancer.
The study, conducted by the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, found popcorn contains "surprisingly large" levels of antioxidants called polyphenols.
Commonly found in fruit and vegetables, polyphenols are thought to reduce the risk of heart disease and cancer and popcorn apparently has an abundance of them.
Dr Vinson, who led the research, told the Daily Mail: "We really were surprised by the levels of polyphenols we found in popcorn. I guess its because it's not processed.
"You get all the wonderful ingredients of the corn undiluted and protected by the skin. In my opinion it's a good health food."
But before you cheer and rush to rent a DVD, remember that the sugar-laden jumbo packet of toffee popcorn that is your usual choice may well negate the benefits of the humble corn.
