The new season has now hit the high street. Sale rails have vanished, gloves and scarves are extinct and the '09 spring/summer deliveries have officially landed. So, what can you re-invent and what should you confine to the back of the wardrobe or charity box?
Check out our fashion-savvy guide to 7 trends to say goodbye to for spring/summer.
1. Tartan. Yep, it was a one season wonder so hand those Highland checks back to your granny.
Hold on to: Plaid shirts and dresses - they can still can be summer essentials once we can finally expose our bare limbs again.
2. Traditional lace. Heavy black lace suddenly looks so very '08.
Hold on to: Any pale coloured lace - it might just work for the new nude trend.
3. Gothic black. Leave all things Halloween-esque for October 31.
Hold on to: Leather pieces still have legs - think leather dresses contrasted with chunky knits, and biker jackets teamed with feminine floral dresses.
4. Leather-look leggings. Unflattering to any mere mortal lacking supermodel genes.
Hold on to: Peg leg trousers - still 'the' flattering shape for your pins for work or play.
5. Fur. Stash away faux furs until next winter. Fine for February but come March you'll look more Cruella De Vil than catwalk hot.
Hold on to: Shaggy style wool cardigans and coats - to add volume (and warmth) when you're wearing clingy separates.
6. Paisley print dresses. That dalliance with winter folk is sure to re-emerge in the future but for now we're all peaced out on the hippy front.
Hold on to: Anything with a distinctly ethnic vibe - Afrocentric and Indian inspired fashions are hot for high-summer.
7. Over-knee boots. Best left to the thigh-slapping pantomime Peter Pans.
Hold on to: Ankle boots. Essential spring footwear that works equally as well with winter or summer gear.

Hi Ella,
Love your posts!
It's great how the few days of nice weather we've had have put us into summer mode. I love that feeling!
I can't wait for the weather to improve for more than a few days in a row to start the spirit-lifting wardrobe spring cleaning you're refering to! Already last week, I noticed the mood changing at my place of work (Big Yellow) with people doing an early clear out and filling up their storage unit with their heavy winter clothes (fur etc) and other temporarily unwanted items. Crazy how fast we're willing to forget about winter! Something tells me I will be seeing them again this week or next to proceed with the swap :-)
If you would like to discuss this further, don't hesitate to drop me a line, and check us out on www.bigyellow.co.uk
All the best,
Steph
