I don't know about you, but I can't help holding a grudge against those skinny women who seem to eat whatever they want and never put on weight.
Can it all be down to eating less and doing more exercise? The way some of my skinny friends stuff their face, I'm not so sure!
Is it genetics or something more simple? Here are 7 habits of naturally slim people. Maybe it's time I changed my ways...
1. Eat slowly
Slim people tend to eat slowly and chew their food well. Try chewing each mouthful 25 times until it becomes almost liquid. Digestion begins with the enzymes in saliva, so you are helping your digestive system by eating slowly. You're also allowing more to time to enjoy the taste of your food and giving your stomach time to signal the brain when you're full – preventing you from overeating.
2. Make treats last
Have you ever watched someone eat half a chocolate bar and put the rest away for another day? Annoying wasn't it? This is a hard habit to break but it can be done. Next time you are eating a treat, make yourself leave half. At first the food will call to you to be eaten. Go for a walk, phone a friend, have a bath – anything to stop thinking about it. Do this at least seven times and your brain will learn to accept the new behaviour.
3. Stop eating when full
Were you told to eat everything on your plate as a child? The best way to break this habit is to always, always, leave a little something on your plate. Scrape the leftover straight into the bin, rather than leaving them in front of you as a temptation. Once you have mastered this, try listening to your body and stop eating when you are full, rather than when all the food has gone from your plate.
4. Say 'No' to food
How many times have you 'forgotten' you're on a diet as soon as someone offers you chocolate? Most of us find it hard to say 'No' in general – we say 'Yes' to please others, so as not to cause offence, because it's easier. How hard then is it to say 'No' to a treat? Physically remove yourself from the temptation if you can. Go to the loo or make a phone call while the girls at work eat the chocolate cake. Alternatively, grab yourself a healthy snack and say, "No thanks, I've just opened a yoghurt." That way you won't feel so left out.
5. Drink lots of water
Have you noticed how slim men and women always seem to be sipping at a bottle of water? Even the ones that don't go to the gym! The naturally thin don't just drink water with their meal, but keep themselves topped up during the day. Carry a bottle of water with you wherever you go to help you get into the habit. Take a swig whenever you fancy something to eat. The water will fill you up and help stave off food cravings.
6. Get active
Some slim people work hard to get a good figure while others don't need to do any exercise. It's important to view exercise as a daily event that will help you to stay healthy. Dog walkers are amongst the fittest people in Britain because they walk at least once a day. If you haven't got a dog why not offer to walk someone else's? Or walk to a shop 30 minutes away to pick up the paper. Do it every day and it will soon become a habit you won't want to break.
7. Stop calorie counting!
It sounds mad but naturally slim people usually eat (a little) of what they fancy, when they fancy it - without worrying about how many calories it contains. Researchers say this is why women in France eat lots of fattening cheese and creamy sauces without putting on weight. They may eat calorific food but they only eat a little of it at a time.

i have lost 6st in 9 months doing slimming world and i have found it quite easy!!! i still get to eat lots of food you just have to think about it first!!!!!
i still have meals out and drink just be good the rest of week and still lose weight!!!!

this is SO not true. i hate it wen ppl 'assume' thin ppl do these things its as if u r saying that its impossibl just2b naturally thin. i for 1 eat what i want, dont drink water, dont exercise, dont say no to food and have had a baby and i am a healthy 8stone 9

I was a nice thin size 8 when I started work at 16, could eat anything, had lots of go. Now aged 56 I am size 16 and feel tired and fat. Used to be a very slow eater, but when I got married, by husbands family bolted down 3 courses in the time I took to eat 1 maincourse! So I had to speed up, thats when I started to put on weight! I don't eat any more or less at meals and don't eat a quarter of the sweets I used to, so why am I fat??!!

What a load of rubbish this article is .Naturally thin people are thin because that is how they are and not for any of the "reasons2 you have given. there is nothing you can do about being thin, and people have no right to say, Oh aren't you skinny, but they seem to think it is their god given right to say so. Thin people would never dream of going up to a fat person and saying , aren't you fat. So it's about time people respected the "naturally " thin and left them alone.

why dont us naturally thin people ever say anything to fat people. perhaps because we have over the years learnt to ignore their rude opinions.i could stuff my face with all the wrong foods all day and not put on any weight, but i dont.i could sit on my nice little rounded bottom all day ,but i dont. I have noticed that what is an acceptable weight for some women is not an acceptable weight for others. For instance, I just read a woman's response on here as her being a "size 16 and feeling fat". Size 16 would look just right on me, approaching skinny. I am a size 20 and although I think I am fat, I believe there is more to life than being slim. I am fit, healthy, I eat what I like within reason, but I have always been big. To me, anything under 13 stone just is never going to happen for me. I've been there, I got down to 11 stone 4 at one time and I looked too thin. It was extremely hard to maintain and I felt miserable. I'd rather accept myself as I am, make the most of my beauty despite my weight, confidence is the key to attractiveness, not weight! :)

What rubbish some fatties believe. The rule is quite simple, output has to exceed input to loose the fat. In my experience fatties like to call slim people 'skinny'. They wouldn't want a slim person to feel good about themselves would they?

not neccessarily ann, although my husband and i eat similarly, i have never in my life had a weight problem. i do not excersise and at 5ft 6inches, weigh between 8 and a half and 9 stone. whereas he does excersise but unfortunately,is two or three stone overweight. so the difference has to be down to our metabolism, over which we have no control, and the rate at which we burn calories

I wouldn't envy skinny people who eat what they want all that much. Friend of mine at work eats rubbish all day long and never puts on a pound. He is constantly tired , spotty, often gets ill and is generally unhealthy. Despite having a considerable amount extra around the middle I'm a lot healthier and according to the doc have lower cholesterol and a much lower risk of heart attack. Skinny does not equal healthy!!

I'm one of those skinny minnies and it's not been an easy ride. I was tormented about my thinness all through school and no boy looked at me twice until I was 18. I hated having no cleavage, knobbly knees and boney shoulders and ankles. At 58 I still feel super sensitive about my skinny legs even though I have had countless women tell me they 'would die for my figure'.
I am one of those people who can eat what ever I want but food is not a big deal for me, I eat to live and I think it's because I'm far too interested in other things to have time to think about food which I find a bit pointless apart from it fuelling my body.
I can't remember the last time I had chocolate but on occassions I do have a penchant for a piece of calves liver but never get around to buying any.
I truely don't have any idea what comfort eating is all about and would happily swallow a pill for my nutrition.
I don't have an eating disorder, I'm just one of those unusual people who can take it or leave it.

What a load of rubbish! I eat healthily, and exercise a lot - I'm still a curvy 8/10/12 (depends where I shop). My mate exercises less, eats chocolate constantly (and doesn't save half for the next day - thats what I HAVE to do have being diagonosed as mildly allergic to chocolate), eat 6-7 meals a day, and stuggles to keep her weight above 6 stone.

I am 21 years old and im a size UK 6 and always have been. Im very skinny. Ive good genetics but i would say how i stay thin is to eat little and often. it also helps that i do not like chocolate. But i will eat it sometimes. I find if i do not concentrate on eating sensibly and eat what i want and when i want in small amounts i stay thin.
